Life as of now, tomorrow and later

Ok, so recently I helped organise a meet for DeviantART’s tenth birthday, we (#Brisburnians) and I planned a party here in Brisbane to celebrate as we were unable to attend the real party in the United States.  The event was a smashing success, we had somewhere between twenty and thirty guests float in and out during the day.

Got me to thinking.  Now I’ve been planning events for DeviantART for near three years now with the aid of some of my super fabulous friends. I take quite a bit of pride and joy into event planning and having people help me spread joy of social events.

Now, what if I could do this and make money at the same time, I mean, take on a handful of staff and plan events for a living…  I had to think long and hard about this as I thought I could do graphic design with the same thought process and look where that left me, with almost no interest in graphic  design now I am doing it.  My theory is that because I do it anyway on a part time basis not being paid, I could do it on a part time basis being paid.  The graphic design I barely could have called casual work, I really didn’t do it all that often unless I had a brainwave for a design idea.

So, while working part time @ a normal retail job I’d love to start to develop a small business planning events for people.  I’m planning my own wedding so there’s even more experience XD  I’m guna attempt to get into the NEIS program with Queensland Government but I have to actually write the letter to the provider and have my interview with him first XD

Still.  I’m applying for a job Thursday, wish me luck aye.

Grass is greener apparently… in your Second Life…

Often when I want to escape reality I don’t pick up a book or watch a film, I spend time on Second Life. It is a MMO (massively Multi-player Online) program which really is just a glorified type of MSN really. You create yourself a 3D avatar weather be animal or human and use that as your online persona. In world you can rent a condo, own a small square of paradise or a whole sim if you like. One doesn’t have to have a home, you can just as easily drift from place to place chatting, partying and having fun with people from around the globe.

You can buy Lindens, their form of currency, or you can work to earn just as you do in real life. Jobs can range from bartender to party host to model to builder. Almost anything you can do in real life you can do in Second Life.

I have had many different accounts but three main ones. My current av’s name is Cat Later. She comes in four different forms (in world you’d call them skins or furrskins), ginger tabby (my most common furrskin), grey tabby, black and white husky and human.

I’ve been using Second Life since 2007, have had the ups and downs, taken breaks and had times here i’ve been completely obsessed with being in-world. Overall it’s great fun, you meet awesome people (even a few crazy ones too) and it’s a nice escape from real life.

Two weeks later

142010-05-14T08:14:37Zd May2010-05-14T08:14:37ZM

Two weeks later and we’re in the new place. No real hitches except the car having an absolute fit the day of moving but it was totally fixable. Stupid oil gages!! I am happy to be rid of the old house but I dread every time I go downstairs and see the piles of boxes and stuff that I have to somehow fit upstairs neatly and tidily. I can see some serious culling going on in the next few weeks. At least once I get it all sorted I can store any unwanted crap that I don’t necessarily want to get rid of downstairs.

I have decided I might get rid of my Twitter account. I am not using it. I installed the app on my mobile and never used it. I tend to go straight to Facebook. Anyone that I have on twitter has my email, facebook or phone number anyway. It’s just another useless account for me to track. Actually, while I am thinking about it I might go and do that now.

Moving House

012010-05-01T02:28:35Zd May2010-05-01T02:28:35ZM

I am absolutely buggered and we haven’t even started moving the furniture.. LOL Looking for a place really takes the energy out of you. I am glad to have found somewhere. If we hadn’t found a place by Monday we would have to have started to apply for places that were not-so-nice as time was running out.

It’s a nice double story place with living quarters upstairs and plenty of storage, two car garages and even a little room underneath. Will be great to have parties and barbecues in. I am even considering having our wedding reception at home as there’s plenty of room out the back and downstairs.

I was really looking forward to going back to work in a couple of week until we realised that I can’t. If I did do work before the end of the financial year (31 July) then my ENTIRE 12 months of youth allowance becomes taxable income and I’d end up having to repay the tax department thousands of dollars. We decided I need to wait until after the first of July. Why the hell your youth allowance turns into taxable income once you start earning from work I don’t know. It’s a very fucked up system we have.

In saying that I have some spare time on my hands, so between my centrelink responsibilities I plan on getting a good garden started with chillies, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber etc. I also want to get my sewing room set up so I can start making things. The sooner I can get that done the sooner I can start selling my creations, doing clothing alterations etc.

Aanyway, I should keep moving along, things to pack, forms to fill out (stupid entry condition report), stuff to do etc.

Whats on in 2010

102010-04-10T13:46:48Zd Apr2010-04-10T13:46:48ZM

What’s on in 2010 for me? Well lots but so little really.

Design wise I have really pushed forth on my kittish.net portfolio site. I am thinking of putting up a shop on there and selling stuff like t-shirt transfers and little prints etc. Just some ideas I am throwing around really. I am so happy with the logo and theme for the kittish site, but wish I could say the same for this site. I just don’t like it at all. I don’t mind the logo but think it needs work. As for the theme itself I have been working on it for days now. It’s all I have been thinking about and I seem to be getting nowhere. Perhaps I should give it a rest for now.

If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions on this damn theme and logo, please let me know.

Wedding wise I have made up a list of things I am going to need to get prices on in the coming few months. I know where I want to have the reception but I won’t know until mid May as to weather I can have it there. Fingers crossed for me.

Otherwise I have been driving myself with Uni and playing EVE Online.
